The U of M Club of Greater Detroit will hold an informal night out at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge on Friday, May 9, 2014, 7pm-11pm. Baker’s is located at 20510 Livernois, Detroit, MI 48221.
Known as the world's oldest Jazz Club, Baker’s was established in 1934 by Chris Baker, with the business carried on by his son Clarence Baker. It has been a club noted for its long history of presenting local and major jazz acts, its excellent acoustics, its intimacy, its Art Deco furnishings (including a distinctive, piano-shaped bar painted with a keyboard motif), Art Deco style paintings of European city landscapes by Harry Julian Carew, tilted mirrors that allow patrons to view the pianist's hands, and its Steinway piano which was selected and purchased in New York by Art Tatum for Clarence Baker in the 1950s. The club also still displays its original liquor pricelist from 1934, showing the price of beer at 26 cents.
This event is open to all alumni of the University of Michigan. U of M Club of Greater Detroit alum come from all areas of metro Detroit and our attendees usually range from recent graduates to seasoned veterans.
The entertainment schedule on Fridays at Baker is 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. so please arrive early (ideally 7:00 p.m.) if you plan on having dinner and enjoying the jazz acts of the night (please note that there is a 2 drink minimum during entertainment), entry is on a first come, first serve basis.

When you arrive at Baker's, there is a $10.00 cover charge, and $3.00 to $5.00 valet parking is available for patrons. The average dinner platter at Baker's is $8.00 to $15.00.
