Aadi Huria

Salem High School

2024/2025
Aadi, a graduating senior at Salem High School, is excited to start his journey at the College of Engineering, fulfilling his dream of attending the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. In addition to his academic achievements, Aadi has actively contributed to his school community as the Founder and President of the Combination Racquets Club, Executive Board member of the National Honors Society, and the Public Relations Director of GIDAS. Aadi's passion for tennis has been a driving force in his life; he has been a Varsity singles player since freshman year, Captain of the Boys tennis team, and Manager of the Girls tennis team. Committed to sharing his love for the sport, Aadi founded the Serve To Serve Academy, a non-profit organization that offers free summer tennis workshops to the community. Furthermore, Aadi serves as the National Director of Fundraising and Events for Second Serve, a non-profit dedicated to providing free tennis equipment to underserved communities worldwide. His commitment to service extends beyond sports, as he volunteers at the Hindu Temple of Canton, managing their website, creating digital announcements, and overseeing the gift shop. In his leisure time, Aadi enjoys entertaining both young children and seniors with his magic tricks, as well as bonding with friends over movie nights. With a love for exploring different cultures and cuisines, Aadi has traveled to over 20 countries, enriching his understanding of the world around him.

Parker Mears

Belleville High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2024/2025

Parker graduated valedictorian of his class and plans to enroll in the college of engineering. He has participated in several extracurriculars including Varsity soccer, FIRST Robotics, Science Olympiad, Chess club, National Honor Society, Marching band, Track, and Volleyball. He balanced all these along with 12 AP classes and his role as principle tuba in the school’s symphony band. Parker has earned several honors and awards such as AP scholar awards, KLAA scholar athlete awards, his school’s senior Math award, the Michigan High School Soccer Coachs Association Individual All Academic Award, and National Merit Finalist. He plans to major in Computer Science at the University of Michigan.

 

 

Cathy Shan

International Academy

2023/2024
Cathy Shan finished high school as one of the valedictorians in her class at the International Academy and is a member of her school's Student Senate. While balancing her International Baccalaureate curriculum, she is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, the Music Honor Society, and the International Academy's Acapella group. Cathy is the sub-commander for her school's Science Olympiad team, the Editor-in-Chief of her school newspaper, and the Fundraising Officer for her school's buildOn chapter. Cathy has been awarded many distinct honors, including her school's Chemistry Award for her achievements in chemistry, the Certificate of Merit awarded by the Society of Women Engineers, and the National Merit Finalist. At the University of Michigan, she intends to major in Biochemistry. 

Arnav Shaw

Troy Athens High School

2023/2024
Arnav plans to enroll in the College of Engineering. He has maintained multiple leadership roles, which included president of Computer Science Honor Society, president of Science Olympiad, president of Future Problem Solving, and vice-president of the FIRST Robotics team. He was also a student representative board member for the Michigan Future Problem Solving program. He was named the FIRST Robotics Dean’s List State Winner and Global finalist. He has participated in various community problem-solving components for Future Problem Solving and has received 3rd place at the International Competition. He has taken 19 AP classes and dual enrollment courses throughout his high school career. He has also played soccer and varsity track for the school.

Ahmed Kaid

Edsel Ford High School

2022/2023
Ahmed plans to enroll in the College of Literature, Science, and Arts to pursue the pre-med track. He graduated as a Salutatorian with a cumulative GPA of 4.45, balancing numerous AP and Dual Enrollment courses. Ahmed further distinguished himself as a Research Fellow for the Environmental Health Research-to-Action initiative, where he admirably educated himself and others about Environmental Health and Social Justice issues affecting Metro Detroit. His research on pollution in the Rouge River and its implications on health and human safety has exemplified his commitment to practical problem-solving and meaningful impact. At the University of Michigan Summer Youth Dialogue, Ahmed shone as a Social Justice Fellow, engaging in meaningful dialogues about current socio-political challenges. He was also exceptional as a Vice President of the EFHS Muslim Student Association, where he facilitated meetings, brought community speakers, and co-led the Ramadan Can Drive, raising over 500 perishable goods. On the sports field, Ahmed proved his tenacity as the Senior Captain of the EFHS tennis team, where he improved from Doubles 4 to Doubles 1 and led his team through three seasons. Additionally, Ahmed made a difference in his community through his active participation in the Teen Grantmaking Initiative and was instrumental in raising $5,500 for three local non-profits.

Adhav Rajesh

Carlson High School

2022/2023
Adhav plans to enroll in the College of Engineering and is the recipient of the David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship. Throughout his high school career, Adhav has had a very rigorous course load, taking 10 AP Classes and graduating second in his class. In addition to founding the Math Olympiad Club, Adhav participated in many school extracurriculars such as: Business Professionals of America, Quiz Bowl, Student Council, National Honor Society, and Earth Club. Adhav has also spent his last 8 years practicing men’s gymnastics at the competitive level, placing at the state and regional level on top of qualifying for nationals. When not practicing gymnastics, Adhav develops mobile software for the non-profit startup QuantumGrad, which attempts to make the field of quantum computing more accessible. Finally, Adhav has achieved several awards during his time in high school. He has qualified for the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference multiple times and placed 8th nationally in Computer Animation. He also is a National Merit Finalist and earned an academic gold medal for his school.

Evelyn Carroll

2021/2022
Evelyn Carroll plans to enroll in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts Honors Program and is a recipient of the David J. Hallissey Scholarship.  Evelyn maintained a 4.0 in high school while taking numerous AP courses and leading her school's Health and Medicine Magnet Program. She is a National Merit Commended Student and an AP Scholar. Evelyn played varsity tennis, serving as a captain her senior year. She was an active member of her school as a representative for Student Action Senate, Skywell Club, and Science Olympiad as well as the Community Service Chair for National Honor Society. Evelyn has completed over 500 hours of community service during her high school career with organizations such as Ann Arbor Give365 and the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan's Youth Advisory Committee. She was awarded two Varsity Letters in Community Service from the United Way and plans on continuing her service in college. 
 

Kyle Spence

Troy Athens High School

2020/2021

Kyle plans to enroll in the College of Kinesiology and is the recipient of David J. Hallissey Scholarship. Kyle had a rigorous academic course curriculum, including a total number of twelve AP classes. On top of his academic schedule, he was a member of the basketball team, varsity football, varsity power lifter and lacrosse team. He was captain of the football team his senior year, captain of the lacrosse team his freshman, sophomore and senior year. Kyle was the recipient of multiple academic and athletic awards throughout his high school career, which include 2017 National German Gold and Silver medals, National Honor Society Omega Chapter, All-A Honors Summa Cum Laude Certificate, 2020 National Merit Program Commended Student, Troy School District Scholar Athlete Award and 2019 US Lacrosse Academic All-American. Kyle was an active member of his community, volunteering at Gleaners Community Food Bank, Trinity Lutheran youth group member and a team leader for Crop Walk to End Hunger.

Jacob Slimak

Athens high School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2019/2020

Jacob plans to enroll in the College of Engineering and is the recipient of the David J. Hallissey Scholarship. Jacob finished first in his class with a weighted GPA of 4.42 with a demanding academic curriculum with fourteen AP classes. Jacob participated for his high school soccer and track and field teams. Jacob was a captain for the track and field team his junior and senior year. Jacob was part of the math club and National Honor Society. He volunteered for his school’s concession stand and AdvoKate Charity Run & Walk for St. Jude. Jacob was a youth recreational soccer coach and volunteer coach for TopSoccer Athletes with Disabilities. Jacob was a scholar athlete: earning All-Region Track and Field, All-State soccer and Academic All-State soccer. Jacob earned summa cum laude, AP Capstone Diploma and AP Scholar Distinction.

Srihari Srinivasan

North Farmington High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2019/2020

Srihari plans to enroll in the College of Engineering and is the recipient of the David J. Hallissey Scholarship. Srihari juggled multiple leadership roles, which included president of HOSA, captain of the varsity tennis team, vice president of competitive events for DECA, Senior tutoring representative for National Honor Society and parliamentarian for model united nations. Srihari was student researcher in the Chinnaiyan lab, tutor for test preparation and Carnatic violinist. She volunteered at Beaumont Hospital and a senior living facility. Srihari had a rigorous academic curriculum, which included thirteen AP classes. Throughout Srihari’s high school years, she earned multiple department awards, national AP scholar, and National Merit semifinalist. Srihari placed third at the HOSA ILC in medical terminology and a DECA International finalist in buying and merchandising.

Hongxiang "Tony" Zhao

2018/2019
Tony is the 2018 recipient of the David J. Hallissey Scholarship. He is a graduate of Detroit Country Day and plans to enroll in the School of Engineering. Tony served as captain of the Computer Science Club, captain of the Science Olympiad team, and Captain of Varsity Swim, Track, and Cross Country. He volunteered within Canton Community and tutored peers in school and outside of school. He scored very well in various AP classes including Calculus BC, Statistics, Physics, and Chemistry. Tony is well respected by his peers as well as his teachers and is said to be one of the best and brightest, nicest and most dedicated students in the history of DCDS.

Harshita Jalluri

Canton High School

2017/2018
Harshita Jalluri has been selected as the David J. Hallissey Scholarship winner and plans to register in the College of LS&A.  At Canton High School, she has been involved in Karate, Event Coordinator of the Art Club, and President of STEM Council. She has also been a volunteer with Open Door Ministry Food Bank, Uplift Humanity in India, and Middle School Science Olympiad. Harshita has received numerous awards including North South Foundation Senior Public Speaking National Qualifier, Congressional Debate State Qualifier, and Art Show Recognition and Awards. She also took multiple AP and Honors Classes earning a 4.03 GPA and was a member of National Honor Society.

Katherine Romero

Harrison High School

2016/2017

Katherine Romero has been selected as the David J. Hallissey Scholarship winner and plans to register in the College of LS&A.  At Harrison High School she has been involved in Varsity Swimming, Manage of Boys Varsity Swimming, and Vice President of Art Club. She has also been a volunteer with Forgotten Harvest, tutoring, Relay for Life, and Cipriano 5k. Katherine has received numerous awards including Farmington Arts Commission Award, NISCA/Speedo Academic All-American, and All-State Swimmer. She took multiple AP and Honors Classes earing a 3.89 GPA and was a member of National Honor Society.

Aarush Garg

Detroit Country Day School

2015/2016

Aarush Garg graduated at the top of his class with a 4.0 GPA at Detroit Country Day School, and he plans to enroll in the College of LS&A. He is a recipient of the David J. Hallissey Scholarship.  It is said that humility, discipline and commitment are three virtues that Aarush lives by and he strives to be the best he can be.  He has taken various AP classes and received the National AP Scholar & AP Scholar with Distinction awards in 2014.  Pursuing intellectual challenge, Aarush has found himself in various academic competitions consistently being a top scorer.  He worked the last 2 summers at U of M & MSU performing research next to PhD students & graduate assistants.  Aarush has volunteered at many medical facilities and by tutoring other students and underprivileged children. 

Elena Stefanko

Brighton High School

2015/2016

Elena is the recipient of the David J. Hallissey Scholarship and is going to enroll in the College of Engineering.  As a student at Brighton High School, Elena, was active in numerous Extra Curricular Activities including Women’s Varsity Swim Team, National Honor Society, JOOI & Relay for Life, to name a few.  She is without question one of the top 3 mathematics students & has taken many AP classes; receiving various Awards & Honors for her hard work.  Elena isn’t just a smart kid; she’s a genuinely good person who is full of fire, grit and unwavering determination.  Her work ethic, personal integrity and polite manner are what makes her an above average student.  Elena’s work with National Relief Network has proven she is a self-motivated, hard working individual who leads by example.  

Neha Hafeez

Canton High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2014/2015

Neha Hafeez finished first in her class of 476 at Canton High School and has in enrolled in the College of LS&A Honors. She plans to pursue a career in Medicine. Her teachers point out that, as a Freshman, she challenged upperclassmen to meet her standard, and in the last few years her "leadership by example" has helped improve the school climate. Neha has over 600 hours of volunteer service in the community, including 360 hours at Henry Ford Hospital. In a short few months, Neha, along with a few of her friends and fellow scholarship recipient Kevin Ni,, raised over $16,000, recruited over 500 volunteers, and hosted a food packaging event for "Feed the Starving Children". Neha is following her Father's advice,  "...dream big, and do everything I can to make it happen.

Kevin Ni

Plymouth High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2014/2015

Kevin Ni graduated first in his class of 505 at Plymouth High School, and he has enrolled in the College of Engineering's Computer Science Department. His teachers highlight his ability to think critically and make connections with ideas from other courses. Kevin has been an effective tutor in Math and Reading at the Kumon Learning Center and has developed different approaches to successfully connect with each student. In addition, his internship at a claims processing company allows him to put his programming skills to use in the real world. At school, Kevin participates in Science Olympiad, Math Olympiad, and National Honor Society. Kevin is a top award winner in Math, Science and Computer Science competitions and was elected to be an officer of the Math Olympiad Team. He is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Kevin, along with Neha Hafeez, another scholarship recipient, helped organize an event to package over 100,000 meals for children around the world through the nonprofit organization Feed My Starving Children.

Anna W. Gray

Clarkston High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2013/2014

Anna Gray plans to dual major in the College of Engineering and the Ross School of Business and is one of the two recipients of the David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship. Anna finished first in her class at Clarkston High School while accumulating credit for 10 AP/college classes. She volunteered extensively and served as President of the Science Club,  lead prosecutor on the State Champion Mock Trial Team and captain of two varsity sports teams. Anna was also the only student in her school to complete five years of two languages, Japanese and French. Her teachers endorse her exemplary leadership skills and her commitment to tutoring at the local elementary school, where she introduced first graders to her love of Japanese.  This summer she will be the female representative of the State of Michigan at the National Youth Science Camp.

Sara K. Palmerton

Saline High School

2013/2014
Sara Palmerton is a graduate of Saline High School, is enrolled in the College of Literature, Science and Arts and is one of the two recipients of the David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship. In addition to her outstanding academic achievements, Sara lettered all four years in Track and Field and was Junior Captain, lettered two years in Field Hockey and was the school representative at the SEC leadership conference, played trumpet in the Marching Band and was elected squad leader in her senior year. Her teachers highlight her leadership skills and volunteer service  tutoring special needs children in a local elementary school. Sara plans to pursue a career in bio-medical science.

Elliot Pearson

Eisenhower High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2012/2013
Elliot G. Pearson is the recipient of one of the two scholarships in honor of the late David J. Hallissey. Elliot graduated from Eisenhower High School, and also attended the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology; a magnet school for academically gifted students interested in the fields of mathematics and science can attend. His ideas on the FIRST Robotics Team, where he served as Vice President, helped shape the robot that went on to win 3rd place at the 2010 Atlanta International Regional. Elliot was also the Science Olympiad Team Captain.

Elliot attended the YMCA’s Astro camp for seven years, and was invited to be camp counselor in 2011. During his time at camp, he discovered a passion for astronomy. That led to a larger interest in science and math, which led him to choose mechanical engineering as a field of study in college. Elliot was also a National Merit Commended Student, and a student leader at Vacation Bible School.

Despite his rigorous academic schedule and community related volunteer activities, Elliott also worked in an office during the summers.

Eric Riedel

Adlai E. Stevenson High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2012/2013
Eric Riedel is the recipient of one of the two scholarships in honor of the late David J. Hallissey. Eric graduated from Stevenson High School, and also attended the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology; a magnet school for academically gifted students interested in the fields of mathematics and science can attend. Eric ranked first in his graduating class with a 4.12 GPA and participated in a variety of Advanced Placement courses. He was a member of the Crevolution Robotics Team where he served as the Website Team Leader. Eric earned his Eagle Scout Badge in 2011 designing an electronic buzzer system for use in his former elementary school and for their math competitions. He also played trumpet in the marching band for three years, and participated in the Chess Club his Junior and Senior year. Also in those years, he was a member of the National Honor Society, and created the school’s NHS website.

Eric is also active in his church, St. Blasé Catholic Church, where he has been an alter server for nine years. He is also a member of the church’s Video Technology Team. Eric also interned at a large company where he helped develop two video game iPad applications.

Steven Goldenthal

Steven Goldenthal is the recipient of the other David J. Hallisey Scholarship. Steven is a graduate of Andover High School, where he participated in National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, Spanish Club, Junior Varsity Baseball, Staff Writer for school newspaper, The Shield, Student Mentor Program, and many other extra-curricular activities. He also achieved in the classroom, taking and excelling in several advanced placement courses. Steven also actively volunteered in the community, including American Red Cross.

Makayla McCoskey

North Farmington High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2011/2012
Makayla McCoskey is this year’s recipient of one of two David J. Hallisey Scholarships. Makayla is a graduate of North Farmington High School, where she compiled an excellent academic record. She also participated in Theater, Student Senate/Class Board, and National Honor Society. Makayla is a National Merit Semifinalist, Madame Curie Top Math/Science Student Medalist, and recipient of several other awards. She also has performed an internship at Providence Hospital, participated on the Mayor’s Youth Council, plays the violin and guitar, writes songs, and serves as a group leader within a religious youth group.

Kelly M. Hahn

Kelly Hahn is the recipient of one of two David J. Hallissey Scholarships. Kelly graduated from Plymouth High School where she succeeded inside and outside the classroom. She participated in Varsity Track & Field, Varsity Cross-Country, National Honor Society, Mock Trial, Student Congress and Youth Group. She holds numerous school records in Track & Field. She also volunteered at her local library, church and YMCA.

Joshua A. Lipshaw

Walled Lake Central

2010/2011
Joshua Lipshaw is the recipient of the other David J. Hallissey Scholarship. Joshua graduated from Walled Lake Central. He had many accomplishments during his high school career. He participated in the Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, National Honor Society and took Advanced Placement courses. He participated in his community as secretary to the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, Ford Amateur Astronomy Club and other charitable organizations. Joshua embodies the characteristics in which the David J. Hallissey Scholarship was established.

Blythe Moreland

Community High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2009/2010
Blythe Moreland is the other winner of the David J. Hallisey Scholarship. Bylthe graduated with high honors from Community High School in Ann Arbor. While in high school, Blythe participated in many extra-curricular activities, such as the School Improvement Team, the school newspaper (The Communicator), Peer Math tutoring and Forum Council. Blythe also compiled a number of awards and accolades, including the following: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – Paul and Kathleen Severino Future Leaders Award, Community High School Starfish Award (for school involvement), Michigan Interscholastic Press Association -3rd place Infographic, National Student Press Association Honor Roll, and American Mathematics Competition winner.

Surya Nagaraja

Salem High School

2009/2010
Surya Nagaraja is one of the two David J. Hallisey Scholarship recipients. Surya graduated ranked first in his graduating class at Salem High School. During high school Surya achieved several accomplishments, such as National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist, USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) National Finalist (Top 20 in country), USA Mathematical Olympiad Qualifier (Top 500 in country), Michigan Math Prize Competition Bronze Medalist, various regional Science Olympiad Competition medals and numerous other math competition awards. Surya has also dedicated himself to community involvement volunteering at local food banks, elementary school fun fairs, the Special Olympics and other local area events.

Matthew Chegash

Wylie E. Groves High School
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2008/2009
Matthew Chegash is the recipient of the David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship. Matthew attended Wylie E. Groves High School where he became a Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition Finalist, AP Scholar with Honors, and a Solo & Ensemble Music Festival Level 1 and 2 award recipient. Matthew was the drumline section leader throughout all four years of high school and was involved in the Jazz Band, Orchestra Pit for school musicals, Bowling Club and Math League. Outside of school, Matthew is a Life Scout who will soon be an Eagle Scout. Matthew also participated in Bible Quiz Bowl, Tech Team (for his church), Youth Group and devoted his time to community service projects through these organizations. Matthew was also employed at Highland Park Baptist Church as a custodian where he cared for the building complex.

Erin Swor

2008/2009
Erin Swor is the recipient of the David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship. Erin attended Wylie E. Groves High School where she became a National Merit Semifinalist, Michigan Math Competition Semifinalist and a Forensic State Finalist. In her sophomore and junior years, Erin was a Scholar Athlete for both softball and basketball. In her junior year, Erin also earned Honorable Mention Award for the PTA Poetry Contest and passed Checcetti Ballet Grade V examination. In her senior year, Erin was the captain of the Forensic Team and Drill Instructor of the marching band. Erin was also involved in National Honor Society, Bowling Club and Interact Club. In the community, Erin volunteered for Habitat For Humanity, Beaumont Hospital and assisted in an elementary school dance class. Outside of school, Erin babysat for people in the community and tutored students at the Kumon Math & Reading Center.

Zhe Guan

Zhe Guan is the recipient of the other David J. Hallisey Memorial Scholarship. He is a graduate of Winston Churchill High School in Livonia. Zhe, a talented musician who plays the piano, flute and tuba, and participated in the marching band, jazz band, brass ensemble and flute ensemble. Zhe is an exceptional student who compiled an outstanding academic record in high school. In addition, he participated in Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, Detroit’s Science and Engineering Fair, Chinese Club and Computer Club. Moreover, Zhe has served the community as a volunteer at the following: (i) Livonia Public Schools Early Literacy Program; (ii) Westland Public Library; and (iii) Churchill High School Band Department. Zhe plans a career I the field of scientific research.

Albert Tang

Northville High School

2007/2008
Albert Tang, a graduate of Northville High School, was awarded with one of two David J. Hallisey Memorial Scholarships. Albert participated in the National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Students Against Drunk driving, Adopt-A-Student program, Philospohy Club, Quiz Bowl team and the marching band. Albert’s accomplishments are noteworthy, as they include designations as National Merit Finalist and Presidential Scholar Candidate, along with numerous awards for achievements in Science Olympiad, Quiz Bowl, Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition. During his summers, he has volunteered at the Northville Public Library and with the Northville Parks and Recreation Department.

Adam Davis

David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2006/2007
Adam Davis is one of two recipients of the David J. Hallissey Scholarship Award. He has proven through his efforts and achievements that he embodies the qualities and characteristics that the Hallissey Scholarship serves to recognize. An accomplished student, Adam also participated in Quiz Bowl, French Club, Science Olympiad, Model United Nations and the National Honor Society. Adam has achieved many awards, including 2004-2005 Michigan Math Prize Competition Bronze Award, 2006 National Merit Scholar Finalist, Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction Award and Plymouth-Canton Educational Park Student of the Month, November 2003. Adam has demonstrated his dedication to helping others in both the community and at international levels by serving as Vice President of DHANI. DHANI is an organization which delivers help and assistance to needy individuals in places such as the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, and victims of Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Emily Wang

David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship
2006/2007
Emily Wang is a recipient of one of two David J. Hallissey Scholarships. Emily has compiled a most impressive record academically and through participation in extra-curricular activities. Not only did Emily achieve distinction as the Valedictorian of her class, she also participated as a member of the National Honor Society and varsity tennis team. Further, Emily was captain of Science Olympiad team and a Michigan American Auxiliary Girls State Delegate. Some of the honors and awards which she compiled include National Merit Scholarship winner, AP Scholar with Distinction, Presidential Scholar candidate, Achievement on AMC-12 as a sophomore and recipient of more than 10 medals in Science Olympiad Regional Competition. This past summer, Emily participated in the Telluride Association Summer Program at Washington University in St. Louis where she had the opportunity to learn how to utilize her unique talents and abilities to benefit those less fortunate. Without question, we are immensely proud to recognize Emily Wang for her talents and achievements, by presenting her with the David J. Hallissey Scholarship.

Tiffany Lin

Tiffany Lin is a graduate of Novi High School where she compiled an outstanding record, both academically and personally. Tiffany participated as a member of the National Honor Society, Science Club, Quiz Bowl Team, Interact Club, and tennis team. She received numerous honors and awards, including National Merit Finalist, National Chemistry Olympiad-District Level Participant, and National Advanced Placement Scholar. As a well-rounded young woman, Tiffany also participates in various dance ensembles and is one of the best youth pianists in Michigan. Astonishingly, Tiffany still found time to serve as editor to the school’s The Wildcat Roar newspaper. Tiffany’s enthusiasm and steadfast commitment to excellence make her a deserving choice for the David J. Hallissey Scholarship.

John Treumuth is a graduate of Lutheran High School Northwest, where he excelled both in and outside of the classroom. John participated in football, wrestling, track and cross country. Furthermore, he compiled an outstanding academic record as the valedictorian of his class. John was a member of the National Honor Society, as well as a National Merit Semifinalist. He achieved the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, the National Secondary School Principal’s Leadership Award, and Oakland County Student of the Month, as well as a host of other awards and accolades. John also actively participates in his church and in other community activities. As a natural leader, John exhibits the qualities honored with this year’s David J. Hallissey Scholarship.

Paul Baciu is a graduate of Troy High School. As a scholar and an athlete, Mr. Baciu maintained a high level of excellence academically and athletically. He actively participated as a member of Troy High School’s tennis team, web creation team and quiz bowl team. His remarkably stellar performance in advanced courses indicates the strong liklihood for Mr. Baciu’s success in college and beyond. Actively involved in the community as well, Mr. Baciu, as a volunteer at William Beaumont Hospital, dedicated himself to helping others while gaining experience further fostering his desire to pursue a career in medicine. Mr. Baciu is respected by friends, classmates and students alike. As a hard-working and dedicated student, Paul Baciu embodies the commitment to excellence for which the David J. Heidi Ziegenmeyer is a graduate of Lapeer West High School. While attending Lapeer West, Ms. Ziegenmeyer excelled in learning while making significant contributions to her classmates and her school. She participated as a member of Lapeer West’s Quiz Bowl, Competitive Math and Science Olympiad teams. Displaying her musical talents, she served as clarinet section leader for the Lapeer West High School Marching and Symphony Bands. In addition, Ms. Ziegenmeyer undertook activities and responsibilities outside the classroom. She achieved the top rank in Girl Scouts of America, participated as a 4-H Club youth leader and served as a volunteer in the Lapeer County recycling program. She has displayed the qualities and ideals of the David J. Hallisey Memorial Scholarship as a leader in school and in the community.
