Bennie Osterbann Scholarship
2024/2025
Sanya Ahmed is a sophomore at the University of Michigan College of Engineering majoring in Biomedical Engineering. She is involved in several organizations on campus including project teams like MedLaunch and Neuroprosthetics, volunteering clubs like Bountiful Pantries and Halimah Project, and cultural/religious groups. She is also a Physics Teaching Assistant and is involved with research at the NeuRRo Lab. Outside of classes she enjoys going on walks and runs through nature, rock climbing, and watching movies. She is also a previous recipient of the Roger and Elaine Zatkoff Scholarship.

Dominic Apap is a graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School and will be attending the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts on a pre-med track. In high school, he earned a 4.887 GPA and took nine AP classes. He participates in quiz bowl, band, Boy Scouts, Spanish Honor Society, and is co-editor-in-chief of the Spectrum newspaper. He has served as the Vice President of Catholic Central’s Linking Hearts mentorship program, which guides middle schoolers in Dearborn. He also volunteers as a public address announcer for St. Edith basketball games, and you can find him caddying at Meadowbrook Country Club during the summer.

Landon Brimacombe is a junior at the University of Michigan studying Sport Management. He
recently started in the role of the team manager for the university field hockey team. He also
worked with the Big Ten Network during the 2023-24 season, commentating games and
working on the broadcasting team for the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament. Landon also plays
for the university’s club field hockey team, serving as a captain and board member. Additionally,
he coaches and umpires for the local club team Fer de Lance FHC. Since May of 2023, Landon
has worked for the University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers, helping conduct research on

I am a Junior from Milan, Michigan, pursuing a major in Sport Management. I have grown up with a deep love for sports, especially soccer, which has significantly influenced my academic and personal journey. I started playing at the age of two in recreational soccer all the way through playing club and on my high school team. I have even been able to intern at the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association. I am a third-generation student at the University of Michigan and am proud to carry on the legacy of attending the best university in the world! I am extremely fortunate to serve as a Student Manager for the Women's Soccer Team, a role that allows me to combine my academic pursuits with my passion for sports. This experience has been nothing short of amazing. I am truly grateful to Jennifer Klein and the entire women's team and staff for granting me this incredible opportunity to be part of the program.

He is deeply involved in his school, working in two positions at the library, tutoring in Spanish, and co-heading two organizations focused on education and advocacy for marginalized communities. Katrina is currently a sophomore at the College of Pharmacy. She is a part of the Bachelors of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences Program and also plans to minor in biology. She hopes to pursue her Doctorate of Pharmacy later on at the College of Pharmacy, with dreams of becoming a pediatric pharmacist. She is also a part of many organizations, including the Pre-Pharmacy Student Organization, the Filipino American Student Association, and Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan. In her free time, she likes to hangout with friends, volunteer at local medical centers, bake, and spend time with her family.

Chancellor Day is a senior studying Robotics at the University of Michigan College of Engineering from Trenton Michigan. This past summer, Chancellor's internship project focused around applications of computer vision for automation. He plans on continuing his education after receiving his bachelors by doing the SUGS program, an accelerated masters degree program with strict GPA requirements. When Chancellor isn't working on school projects, he enjoys playing piano and board games.

On campus she is a Team Manager for the Varsity Women's Volleyball team, a Fan Experience and Game-Day Operations intern for the athletic department, a student ambassador for the School of Kinesiology, and a member of the Hill Central region of New Life Church. She plans on graduating with a bachelor's degree in 2027, and plans on pursuing a career in marketing or team operations within the sport industry.

Drew will attend the College of Engineering at the Univerity of Michigan with plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. He is a graduate of Clarkston High School, ranked 3rd out of 490 students with a 4.378 GPA. Drew maintained a rigorous course load, including ten AP courses and several college-level courses. Throughout high school, he was a member and group leader in National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, and class executive board. He also played high school and club soccer. Drew was the recipient of several awards, including National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction. Outside of the classroom, he took part in a mechanical engineering internship and several other part-time jobs throughout high school. Drew looks forward to his time at the University of Michigan.

Patricio is a graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School and a recipient of the Frederick C Matthaei Scholarship. In addition to this scholarship, he received the Shipman Scholarship and the Regents Merit Scholarship from the University of Michigan. He will study Computer Science on a pre-law track through the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts's Honors Program. Throughout high school, he excelled, enrolling in 11 AP courses and nine honors courses, achieving a 4.882 weighted GPA, putting him in the top 5% of his class. He received a 35 single-sitting ACT score and a 36 superscore. Dana is a Troy High School graduate and plans to major in Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering at The University of Michigan. She's a well-rounded person and loves helping others strive for their best. In High School, she took various AP classes, including AP Physics C, AP Physics 2, AP Calculus, AP Lit and Lang, AP Psychology, and AP Spanish. Her life has always been balanced between excelling in academics, extracurricular activities, and volunteering events. Dana volunteers to play saxophone every Sunday while leading the worship band during church services. She also helps lead the teen ministry by planning weekly lessons for the youth group. Speaking her thoughts was never a problem, which is why she enjoyed being part of the Forensics public speaking team. During all four years of High School, she was involved in Cross Country and Track and served as the Class of 2024 Secretary and NHS Vice President, which allowed her to help organize blood drives as well as school supply donations for Schools in the Philippines. Colin Gibson is a junior at the University of Michigan having grown up in nearby Kalamazoo, MI. He transferred to Michigan after competing as a student-athlete at McKendree University during the 2022-2023 season. After a career ending injury, Colin decided to move back home and attend his 'dream school' to pursue a degree in Sport Management in the School of Kinesiology. He also is currently minoring in Coaching and Leadership as he intends to pursue a career in coaching upon his graduation. Now entering his second season as a student manager with the Swimming and Diving program, Colin exemplifies fully what it means to be a Michigan Wolverine, and takes great pride in the work that he does as part of the program. In addition to his academic achievements, Aadi has actively contributed to his school community as the Founder and President of the Combination Racquets Club, Executive Board member of the National Honors Society, and the Public Relations Director of GIDAS. Aadi's passion for tennis has been a driving force in his life; he has been a Varsity singles player since freshman year, Captain of the Boys tennis team, and Manager of the Girls tennis team. Committed to sharing his love for the sport, Aadi founded the Serve To Serve Academy, a non-profit organization that offers free summer tennis workshops to the community. Anish Jain is a senior at Avondale High School pursuing a degree in Computer Science through

I’m Ahmed, a Junior in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. I am originally from Dearborn, Michigan, 35 minutes away from Ann Arbor, and I go back there almost every day. I am pursuing a Biomolecular Sciences major on the pre-med track. I am the outreach coordinator for the Yemeni Students’ Association, helping set up campus tours for high school students and collaborations with other organizations. I am the education chair for Illuminate, an organization tackling health inequities in Washtenaw County. I am currently a medical assistant and love assisting and communicating with patients. I love hiking and mountain biking the local Southeast Michigan trails in my free time.

She has taken nine AP courses over the course of her high school career including Biology, Psychology, Calculus, and English Language & Composition, while maintaining an unweighted GPA of 3.98. She was the captain of the Varsity Swim Team, played Varsity Lacrosse, was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and a 4-year member of the Marching Band. Jonathan Manela plans to enroll at the College of LSA through its Honors Program. Jonathan is
graduating from North Farmington High School with a 4.0 unweighted GPA having taken a
rigorous courseload consisting of many AP and honors courses. He is both an AP Scholar with
Distinction and a National Merit Finalist. Jonathan has many passions, one of which is music.
He is a member of the North Farmington Symphony Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Marching Band,
where he served as the Field Sergeant, and he has performed in the Pit Orchestra for the
school musical. Jonathan studies trombone privately, has volunteered as an instrument coach
for the Farmington Public Schools Middle School Summer Music Camp, and has received a
Proficiency I Division I rating as a soloist at MSBOA State Solo & Ensemble. Jonathan is also
an active member of North Farmington’s Model United Nations, where he served as both

Quinn has excelled both academically and athletically during her high school career. She graduated as salutatorian of her class and participated in many Advanced Placement courses. She was named the Copy Editor for her school’s newspaper as well as the Business Editor for yearbook. Quinn was a four year varsity athlete, earned All League Honors in swimming three times, and was recently named as a recipient of the All American Academic award from the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches of America, Inc. All American Team. She was a co-captain of the FIRST Robotics team and the vice president of her school’s National Honors’ Society chapter. Adrianna Patanis is a sophomore in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan, where she is studying mathematics. On campus, Adrianna is a member of the running club team, MRun, and she enjoys practicing and competing with them during the cross country season. DaMone' Payne hails from Southfield, Michigan, a suburb in Metro Detroit, where she was instrumental in her community as the student representative for the Southfield Public Schools School District, a varsity athlete, and held many leadership roles in several organizations in her high school from President of the Queer-Straight Alliance, A leader in the National Honor Society, as well as an instrumental member in her year's Class. After graduating and attending the University of Michigan, she went on to pursue a degree in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience, in hopes of becoming a Forensic Psychologist. As a current junior, DaMone' has continued the trend of heavy involvement in school as a senior researcher for the medical school, a member of the Black Undergraduate Medical Association, the Neuroscience association, and a player for the women's Rugby team, and a leader of both podcast and photography clubs on campus, among other things. DaMone' is excited to complete the latter half of her undergraduate career here at the University of Michigan with her community of Detroit club scholars and alumni supporting her in her academic journey.

When I’m not in class or working, I love watching movies, hanging out with friends, and playing bass guitar.

Jackson was a swimmer, captained the water polo team, and played trumpet in the marching
band where he served as a section leader. He was a member of the National Honors Society
and Big Brother Big Sister, and a Campus Captain for The Hidden Opponent, a nonprofit
dedicated to advocacy for student-athlete mental health. After receiving his black belt in Tae
Kwon Do and Hapkido, Jackson volunteered as a teacher in his studio. He took many AP

Matthew is a recipient of the 2024-2025 Roger and Elaine Zatkoff Scholarship. He currently attends North Farmington High School and has been accepted into the College of Engineering for the fall of 2024. Over the past four years, Matthew has been involved in numerous school activities, clubs, and sports. He competed as a varsity cross country and track athlete for all four years, earning All-League cross country honors for two consecutive seasons. In addition, he compiled more than 60 volunteer hours between 11th and 12th grade as a member of the National Honor Society. He was also heavily involved in his school’s Model United Nations Club, LINK Crew, Student Senate Executive Board, Class Board, and Recycling Club. Matthew has a deep passion for the arts; he served as the principal cellist of his school’s symphony orchestra for multiple years, earned nine top ratings at the MSBOA Solo and Ensemble Festival, and took private lessons for more than seven years. Matthew currently holds a 4.3095 GPA and has managed to earn all A’s throughout high school despite partaking in a rigorous course load with 11 AP courses. Aryaman has enrolled in the College of Engineering and will be studying Computer Engineering. He is the Team Leader of his school's Forensics team, mentoring over 30 students and competing in over 16 tournaments. He has also played the Tabla (Indian Classical Percussion Instrument) for over 12 years and has won international-level awards in competitions. He is an avid leader as president of his HOSA Parliamentary Procedure team and co-founder of Novi High School's Diversity Club. He participated in Varsity Debate and was a Link Crew Leader as well. Grace plans to pursue a career in Physical Therapy, with a particular interest in a sports and/or pediatrics specialty.

Alex is a senior majoring in Business and Sport Management. He is one of our two head managers, entering his third season with the women’s basketball team. Alex is a valuable member of the team, traveling to all away games, working practices, and helping film and code practice and games. The past three summers, Alex interned at the NBA Summer League, serving as Lead Intern this past summer. Alex is also in his third year as a member of the University of Michigan Sport Business Association, where he is Co-Director of Research & Insights. Alex aspires to work in basketball after he graduates.

Holden Schoenherr will be a freshman at the College of Engineering this fall, with plans to study Civil Engineering, Environmental Sustainability, and Business. Holden finished in the top 1% of his graduating class of over 500 students at Lake Orion High School. There, he maintained a 4.51 GPA, with rigorous honors, AP, and college coursework and is an AP Scholar with Distinction and was very involved in his community in high school. As president of Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Secretary of NEHS, Treasurer of MNHS, and is the Co-Founder/President of the Spanish Club, he prides himself in his community involvement. He also enjoys engaging in the community through service organizations including National Honor Society, Student Government, and SNHS. Holden was also a 4-year senior captain of the Cross-Country team and was awarded the National Rural and Small-Town recognition award. Eventually, Holden hopes to continue to graduate school, and obtain a master's degree in business administration.

My name is Gabby Stempien and I am currently a senior graduating from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. During my time there, I participated in many sports and clubs. I was the ski race team captain, swim team captain, and played golf and tennis as well. I was a part of NHS, a business leadership club, and spent a lot of time volunteering. Over the four years, I took many rigorous courses and always maintained above a 4. GPA. In the fall, I will be studying economics at the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor and plan to minor in marketing.
Selena Sun
Women's Basketball Manager Scholarship

Selena is a senior studying UX Design in the School of Information. Selena works with the women’s basketball team as a student-manager graphic designer. Selena has designed artwork for the renovated women’s locker rooms and office hallways, as well as student-athlete graphics for the Crisler tunnel, and Pro Blue Wall. Additionally, Selena creates recruiting and other social media graphics for the team. In addition to her work with women’s basketball, Selena also works with Michigan Football and Men’s Hockey. This past summer, Selena interned with the Chicago Cubs as the Productions Intern. She has also interned with the Orange Bowl Committee and Madison Square Garden as the motion design intern for the Knicks and Rangers, and NCAA Sports Properties. Selena aspires to continue her passion for creative strategy, marketing, and digital media within the sports industry when she graduates. Amanda Valle

working with the Field Hockey team as a Social Media Manager. I have spent the last two years
in Atlanta working as the Social Media Specialist for the Atlanta Falcons getting to travel all over
the country! I received my Bachelors in Sports Journalism from Arizona State University Walter
Cronkite School in May of 2022. I aspire to continue working in sports and hope to find my true
calling during my time at Michigan. I love to run, read, and be outside. I am so thankful to be

Jazzelle, a recipient of the Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarship, is a Valedictorian of Notre Dame Preparatory School’s class of 2024 and will be attending the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Jazzelle graduated with an unweighted 4.0 GPA and was a participant in 10 rigorous AP courses. Due to this course load, she was awarded the Summa Cum Laude as well as the AP Scholar Award and American Citizenship Award. She was an active leader throughout high school as the President of the Be Nice Mental Health Club and the President/Founder of the Pre-Medical Club. She also served in her school as a Student Ambassador, member of the National Honors Society, and Peer Mentor. Jazzelle is CPR and AED certified as she worked as a Head Lifeguard and Swim Instructor for four years. Additionally, she worked as an office assistant at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital for two years. Jazzelle engaged in two research projects, one on cholecystectomies and ERCPs and the other on Bulimia Nervosa’s effect on the epidermis, and she volunteered weekly at the Friendship Circle of Michigan. She also plays the piano, competing in various competitions including the Michigan Music Festival. Jazzelle participated in upwards of ten years of competitive swimming in the Suburban Inter-Club Swim Association as well as was a three times Varsity starting power forward of the Notre Dame Preparatory basketball team. She was Varsity Team Captain and won various awards including the Scholar Athlete Award, MVP Award, and Player of the Game. Jazzelle plans to major in biochemistry and pursue a career in healthcare.Kay Youmans

Kay Youmans is Valedictorian of Taylor High School's class of 2024 and will be attending LS&A in the fall. She is a hardworking, dedicated student, well-loved and respected by her peers. During her time at Taylor High School, Kay took nine AP classes, including an independent study for Calc BC. Collegeboard's AP Scholar award speaks as a testament to Kay's hard work and dedication in her studies throughout high school. She also participated in various student-led organizations throughout her high school career, such as Academic Games Team, Quiz Bowl, Book Club, Student Council, and National Honor Society. Kay has a passion for writing, leading to her founding Taylor High School's inaugural Creative Writing Club! Her love for the environment helped her to coordinate with peers and teachers to help create a Green Club within the school as well. This speaks to her constant drive for innovation and student involvement. Kay hopes to pursue a career in the field of Eco-Psychology or Urban Planning, finding a way to help those in need while also tending to the needs of the planet.
