Daniel Syed

2026/2027
Daniel is a senior at the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills and will attend the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, where he plans to study neuroscience. He has pursued the IB Diploma Programme while maintaining strong academic performance and was recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar.
He serves as President of the Biology Club and co-founded the Psychology Club. He has conducted independent neuroscience research and served as a volunteer research assistant at Wayne State University and the University of Michigan. He was selected as a Genes in Space finalist and a USA Biology Olympiad semifinalist, and placed 3rd at the Michigan State Brain Bee. As a Science Olympiad competitor, he has earned multiple awards at the regional, invitational, and state levels. He has also competed in economics competitions, including the Econ Challenge and Euro Challenge, where he advanced to the national level.
He has tutored over 150 students through Schoolhouse SAT Tutoring and Students Empowering Students, where he serves as Co-President, and has also worked as a math tutor for K–12 students. He volunteers at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, assisting with patient transport, and has received the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award twice for his commitment to service.
Outside of school, he enjoys playing sports, working out, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He is honored to receive this scholarship and looks forward to attending the University of Michigan this fall.
