Dana Garcia

Troy High School

2024/2025
Dana is a Troy High School graduate and plans to major in Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering at The University of Michigan. She's a well-rounded person and loves helping others strive for their best. In High School, she took various AP classes, including AP Physics C, AP Physics 2, AP Calculus, AP Lit and Lang, AP Psychology, and AP Spanish. Her life has always been balanced between excelling in academics, extracurricular activities, and volunteering events. Dana volunteers to play saxophone every Sunday while leading the worship band during church services. She also helps lead the teen ministry by planning weekly lessons for the youth group. Speaking her thoughts was never a problem, which is why she enjoyed being part of the Forensics public speaking team. During all four years of High School, she was involved in Cross Country and Track and served as the Class of 2024 Secretary and NHS Vice President, which allowed her to help organize blood drives as well as school supply donations for Schools in the Philippines. Dana's passion for striving for success gained her the Outstanding Freshman Award, Outstanding Soloist for MSBOA 2022, Michigan All-State Band, Michigan Seal of Biliteracy, and the National Hispanic Recognition Award. During her free time, she enjoys improvising on saxophone with her band, which gained them first place in Troy High's 2024 Talent Show. Dana believes that with the right mindset, nothing is impossible."

Lindsay Louwers

Seaholm High School

2024/2025
 Lindsay will be graduating from Seaholm High School and plans to enroll in the College of LS&A and is the recipient of the Lloyd and Laurie Carr Scholarship. Lindsay was a well-rounded student, balancing sports, rigorous courses, countless extracurriculars, volunteer work, and a job. She has taken nine AP courses over the course of her high school career including Biology, Psychology, Calculus, and English Language & Composition, while maintaining an unweighted GPA of 3.98. She was the captain of the Varsity Swim Team, played Varsity Lacrosse, was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and a 4-year member of the Marching Band. She has earned many awards throughout her career including AP Scholar with Distinction, as well as being All-State in swimming and an Oakland County Scholar Athlete. She enjoys giving back by volunteering regularly with her youth group Younglife.

Katrina Cruz

2023/2024
Katrina plans to enroll in the College of LS&A and is the recipient of the Lloyd and Laurie Carr Scholarship. Katrina graduated with an unweighted GPA of a 4.0. She took six AP classes throughout highschool, which included Biology, Psychology, World History, Language and Composition, Environmental Science, and Calculus. She was a part of many school organizations, including student council, class council, National Honor Society, and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She served as vice president of her class, secretary of student council, and secretary of National Honor Society. Katrina is an active member in her community, and likes to volunteer at events at her local UAW hall to connect with and give back to everyone. She hopes to enroll in the College of Pharmacy later on in order to pursue her dream.

Brady Miller

Dakota High School

2023/2024

Brady plans to enroll in the college of Literature, Science and the Arts at The University of Michigan where he will study Mathematics and Actuarial Science. Brady maintained a 3.99 GPA throughout high school while being involved in several clubs and athletics. Brady was a four-year member of the Dakota wrestling team. Brady was also a member of The Scientific Debate Team, Mu Alpha Theta, The Key Club, The Chess Club, The Student Government, and The Detroit Economic Club Career Readiness Academy. Brady is a leader and lifelong learner. He challenged himself throughout high school by taking several AP courses and an independent study in Linear Algebra.  Brady loves math and works at The Mathnasium as a math tutor. In his free time, Brady enjoys playing the piano, water skiing, snowboarding, reading and working out.

Matthew Dahlman

My educational career so far has been very accomplished. It was clear very early that I excelled in academics and in sixth grade I began to take math with the honors class of the grade above me. Yet it was not only in math that I performed so well as when I began high school I took every honors and AP class available to me. By the time I graduate I will have taken eight AP exams, five of which I have already scored a 5 on. I am graduating this year first in my class with a GPA of 4.456 or 3.99. It is my goal to become a computer engineer through the program at the University of Michigan and design computer hardware. For extracurriculars I was a captain on the swim team and swam all four year, founder of the Fantasy roleplaying games club, member of the fishing club, chess club, and trap team. I also have held a job as a shelf stocker, carpenter’s apprentice, and dishwasher.

Reagan Spears

2022/2023
Raegan Spear graduated from Henry Ford II High School and is enrolling in the College of LS&A. Raegan was a well-rounded student who balanced high-level classes, a sport, a job, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities. Raegan took a variety of classes, such as World History, U.S. History, Government and Politics, Language and Composition, Biology, Physics 1, Calculus BC, and Capstone Seminar. She was member of the Ford Girls tennis team all four years and gained the title of team captain. She played an active role in her school and held a number of leadership positions, including Co-Officer of National Honor Society, Key Club Bulletin Editor, board member of HOSA, officer of French Club, and Freshman Mentor. Raegan earned first place at HOSA regionals in her event all four years, Seal of Global Language in French, Tennis Coach’s Award, and AP Scholar with Distinction. She was an active member of her community, frequently donating blood with the American Red Cross and participating in monthly service events with Key Club.
 

Tess Carichner

Saline High School

2021/2022
Tess Carichner plans to enroll in The School of Nursing and is the recipient of the Lloyd and Laurie Carr Scholarship. Tess has a 4.06. Her favorite classes are AP Biology and AP History. As a freshman, Tess co-founded Minding your Mind Matters, a mental health awareness club which promotes education, advocacy and stigma reduction. She received the National American Legion Auxiliary Good Deed Award for suicide prevention. Tess is an inaugural student board member of the Washtenaw County Schools Peer-to-Peer and UM Eisenberg Family Depression Center. She is an International Days for Girls Ambassador who presented on women’s health and distributed feminine hygiene kits in South Africa and Ann Arbor. Tess sewed 500 COVID masks for nurses at St. Joe’s hospital. Tess is 2020 Saline Youth of the Year and 2020 Washtenaw County Young Citizen of the Year. She attended the 2019 Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar. She is a Varsity Track Captain and Varsity Cross Country athlete. She attended the LPGA Leadership Academy. She enjoyed The University of Michigan School of Music, Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program and Girls in Music and Technology, as well as The Ross School of Business’ MREACH.

Emma Behrendt

Brighton High School

2020/2021

Emma plans to enroll in the College of LS&A and is the recipient of the Lloyd and Laurie Carr Scholarship. Emma was a member of many school related boards, including class council, student government, BKOM board and executive board. She was a member of the National Honor Society and captain of the junior varsity cheerleading team. In her spare time, Madelyn volunteered with the Yong Life Club and was a math tutor at Brighton Initiative to Teach Everyone. Madelyn was a 4-time honor roll, academic letter recipient while taking eight AP classes throughout her high school career. She was awarded honors at the MITES graphic design competition and a retail employee at Rosy’s Boutique.

Drew Prater

Monroe High School

2019/2020

Drew plans to enroll in the College of LS&A and is the recipient of the Lloyd and Laurie Carr Scholarship. Drew finished first in his class with unweighted GPA of a 4.0 overall. Drew was a member of many in-school extracurricular activities. He was part of the American Sign Language Club, Trojan Mentor and Monroe High School cabinet class of 2019 cabinet. Drew was a member of the National Honor Society and president his senior year. He was president of the C.A.L.C. club and a member of the Monroe High School Senior Leadership Team his senior year. Athletically, Drew was a member of the track and field team, soccer team and high school band. Drew was an active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and the patrol leader with the Boy Scouts of America Troup 579. Drew achieved the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scouts rank, while volunteering many hours in his service project.  While taking multiple AP courses, including World History, Chemistry, Statistics, Calculus and English Literature, Drew was also appointed Winterfest King his junior year and part of the Homecoming Court member his senior year.

Brandon Westfall

2019/2020

Brandon plans to enroll in the College of Nursing and is the recipient of the Lloyd and Laurie Carr Scholarship. Brandon graduated with an overall, unweighted GPA of 3.97, while taken a rigorous academic course curriculum; which included AP classes in Physics, Chemistry, Calculus and Computer Science Principles. Brandon earned High School All Honor Roll all four years. He won 1st place in AMVET’s Essay Contest Michigan and 3rd place AMVET’s Essay Contest United States. Brandon was a part of the student council, HOSA, Pal Camp Leadership Team, National Honor Society and NHS parliamentarian his senior year. Outside of academics, throughout his four years, Brandon was a junior varsity in basketball, baseball, cross country and varsity in track and tennis. In his spare time, Brandon was a MYLead at Michigan State University and worked for P. Osten Janitorial.

Gloria Stach

Gloria Stach plans to enroll into the School of Engineering and is a recipient of the Lloyd & Laurie Carr Scholarship. Gloria has taken many IB classes including Chemistry, Economics, and World History while maintaining a 4.0 unweighted GPA. She served as a student mentor for Peer Corps and participated in Forensics, Model United Nations, and Future Business Leaders of America. She is active within her community by serving as a religious education teacher, tutoring bilingual students at International Technology Academy, and volunteering at soup kitchens. Gloria earned many awards throughout high school including Cum Da Lade all four years, 2nd place Individual Future Problem Solving State sophomore and junior year, and 1st place Community Problem Solving Team junior year.

Max Weber

Max Weber, a winner of the Lloyd & Laurie Carr Scholarship, graduated form Ferndale High School with a 4.0 GPA and he is applying to the School of Engineering. He took many AP classes including World History, Chemistry, and Microeconomics. Max was a member of the Varsity Swim Team, serving as captain his junior and senior year, a member of National Honor Society, and a member of Student Council. He received multiple awards throughout his four years of high school including National AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, and Athletic Academic Achievement Award. Max also volunteered within his community through Relay for Life and Clean the Ferndale Up.

Laura Sanderson

Laura Sanderson, the winner of the Lloyd & Laurie Carr Scholarship, graduated from Whitmore Lake High School with a 4.18 GPA and she is applying to the College of LS&A. She took many AP courses including English Language, Government and Politics, and Spanish. Laura was a member of the Quiz Bowl team, Drama Club, and a class representative on Student Council. She received multiple awards throughout her four years of high school including National Honor Society, Gold Academic Medal, and Foreign Language Excellence. Laura also was an active member in her community, putting in mass amounts of hours of service as a student community volunteer and a daycare volunteer at 2/42 Community Church.

Brandon Whitmore

Shrine Catholic HIgh School

2016/2017

Brandon Whitmore, the winner of the Lloyd & Laurie Carr Scholarship, graduated from Shrine Catholic High School with a 4.27 GPA and he is applying to the School of Kinesiology.  He took many AP courses including US History, World History, and Literature. Brandon was a member of the Varsity Football team and Varsity Baseball team, receiving the Varsity Baseball Academic Excellence Award. He received multiple awards throughout his four years of high school including Honor Roll, Excellence in many of his honors classes, and National Honor Society. Brandon served as both Class Vice President and Class Secretary. He was an active member in his community, putting in mass amounts of hours of service with multiple organizations. Through Catholic Heart work Camp, Brandon took a school mission trip to Roanoke, Virginia where he performed service for over 128 hours a week.

Jian Chen

2015/2016

Jian Zhi Chen plans to enroll in the School of Engineering and is the recipient of the Lloyd & Laurie Carr Scholarship.  Jian better known as “Zane” has a solid work ethic carrying over a 4.0 GPA.  Zane has been active in National Honors Society, Varsity Boys Tennis, Lamphere Drama Club & Link Crew.  Academically, he has taken advantage of the most rigorous Advanced/Honors/ AP courses including Honors Geometry & Pre-Calculus, Chinese Language & Culture, Psychology and English Literature & Composition.  Zane has also generously given of his time & energies accumulating over 62 hours of community service.

Brittany Gates

Livonia Churchill

2014/2015

Brittany Gates plans to enroll into the School of LS & A and the recipient of the Lloyd & Laurie Carr Scholarship.  Brittany finished fourth in her class at Livonia Churchill High School while accumulating credit for 11 AP/college classes. Brittany is a member and Treasurer of the CHS Chapter of the National Honor Society.  She was captain of the 2013 CHS Swim and Dive Team and a member of the CHS Student Council. Brittany was a member of the CHS Spirit Club and is a mentor and tutor for CHS Success Strategies, a student program at Churchill in which academically talented students serve as mentors for underachieving peers.

Robert M. Koehn

Renaissance High School
Lloyd & Laurie Carr Scholarship
2013/2014

Robert Koehn graduated from Renaissance High School.  He participated in the Chess Team, Robotics Team, tutored math and science students and was the captain of the varsity soccer team.  He was also a member of the National Honor Society and an assistant treasurer at Hope Community Church.   Robert took and excelled in multiple Advanced Placement courses while at Renaissance, earning A’s in each one.  He is a National Merit Semifinalist.  Robert also was a Junior R.O.T.C. Executive Officer throughout high school.

 

While at the University of Michigan, Robert will be pursuing a degree in engineering because he wants to help others and give back to his community by making a difference in the world.

 

Isabella Wishnivetski

North Farmington High School

2012/2013
Isabella Wishnivetski graduated from North Farmington High School. She is the first recipient of the Laurie and Lloyd Carr scholarship. In high school she excelled inside and outside the classroom. She maintained a perfect GPA while serving as Special Editor of the school newspaper/yearbook, Captain of the swim team and also a member of the tennis team. She volunteered for many causes and was the founder and President of the Think Pink Club in support of fighting breast cancer. She will be attending the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan majoring in Marketing and Communications.
